Guess What This Is!

SERIOUSLY! You will never guess!

In honor of #ThrowBackThursday, we are digging deep into our memory banks. Think back to your younger days. To a time where nutrition was so far down on your list, you struggled to spell the word "nutrition" correctly! Mostly high school and college years.

Remember looking for something that was convenient, tasty, was easy to store, required no refrigeration, and was fun? You had crackers but pb&j wasn't cutting it. Hmm...what did the corner 7-11 store have available?

Well, I'm not going to tell you what it is.
But here are the ingredients and directions.
  1. Butter
  2. Beef broth
  3. Unflavored pure Gelatin
  4. Sharp cheddar cheese
  5. Salt.

Directions:
1. Make brown butter (melt butter until it begins to develop brown flecks. Remove from heat.
2.  Place broth in bowl and sprinkle gelatin on it.
3.  Stir broth into butter (carefully! It splatters.)
4.  Add cheddar and stir to combine.
5.  Then everything into the blender and whirl.
6.  Salt to taste.
7.  Pour (it is liquidy at first) into squeezable container.
8.  Refrigerate.

Chef says it keeps for two weeks. I cannot verify that because it hasn't lasted that long!

And yes, the kid loves it. After putting some on her egg and her biscuit, she squeezed some directly into her mouth. Ah, memories.

Thanks to Maria Emmerich for this terrific recipe for Homemade Cheese Whiz!
